La Corda d’Oro volume 14: School festivals are so much fun!

la corda d'oro volume 14I’m not exactly a fan of shoujo manga series that focuses only on romance, but La Corda d’Oro is one exemption to that preference. Up to now, I’m not sure why I really love this manga. I have been thinking what made me attracted to this manga that I listed it under my ‘minor favorites’. I’m not a fan of Hino Kahoko, the heroine. So maybe it’s because the story has many bishounens you can fangirl about (READ: Kazuki Hihara). Or perhaps I just find it cool that the heroine has so many guys wooing her. But oh well, I guess I’ll just go straight to the review of my most favorite volume (so far)…

Even before volume 14 was released last year, I have already told myself that I am so going have this volume because it has Kazuki Hihara on the cover (how much do I love Kazuki? read here). Although Kazuki looks out of character in the cover (which, the manga-ka, Yuki Kure, herself mentioned in the book), I find it as a cool break from his always smiling face. I’m definitely not a Kazuki-Kaho shipper, but IT HAS KAZUKI HIHARA ON THE COVER so I won’t complain.

[INCOMING SPOILERS!]

Volume 14 was all about the two most awaited and fun school festivals: Sports Festival and Cultural Festival (I love these events too when I was in high school ^_^ A break from all the Keiichi sports fest la corda 14studying! Fun time with friends! Oh yeah!). I know, I know, ‘school festival’ arc is already a cliche of school drama manga series, but more often than not, school festival arcs are my favorites. I’m glad that La Corda d’Oro didn’t fail me; most of the ‘must haves’ of school festivals were included.

The volume started with Measure 59, the sports festival chapter. The first part was all sports fest comedy: Kahoko cheering Aoi, boosting his will and energy, Kahoko’s stone throwing fight with an Azuma Yunoki fangirl (forgot her name…), and the most humorous in the chapter, Keiichi doing really good in the chicken fight (hahaha! made me laugh hard! I mean, Keiichi? Doing good in the sports festival? Surprising…).

Kahoko Ryotaro volume 14The chapter progressed from comedy to romance when the accidentally injured Kahoko visited the clinic. Well, call it fate, or coincidence or whatever because the nurse was out, and there in the clinic was Ryotaro. Ryotaro, of course, being a gentleman, tended Kahoko’s injury much to her shyness. I find that scene too cheesy but nevertheless it provided a stage of attention to Ryotaro. He was able to hint that he wants to tell ‘something’ to Kahoko, but he decided that it can wait until after the music contest (the contest that the two of them are joining).

kazuki aoi ryotaro la cordaImmediately after Measure 59 is the Sports festival special edition, with trumpet major Kazuki Hihara on the spot light (oh yeah!). I don’t really want to comment about this special chapter; my words are definitely going to be too biased because it was full of Kazuki Hihara. But anyway, it was fun to see Kazuki, Ryotaro, and Aoi to be getting along so well, despite the fact that each of them are very aware of each other’s feelings for Kahoko. I think it is better that rivals in love are friendly towards each other.

Nothing big happened in Measure 60, though I think I can consider the confrontation talk between Ryotaro and Len as something major. That dialogue made me look at the worse side of Len… I didn’t really find it cute that Len asked Ryotaro what he loves about Kahoko, as if it was nothing. Len is too dense for a male character; I can’t believe that he has the slightest of idea of Ryotaro’s feelings for Kahoko. And I won’t take his ‘too focused in music’ excuse — it isn’t enough for be a rich boy to be ignorant of others’ feelings.

la corda volume 14 impromptuMoving on… Measure 61 marks the start of the school festival (/cultural festival). I think it’s the ‘Aoi Chapter’ in volume 14. Kahoko had forced Aoi to play Romeo and Juliet on the viola. What’s more, she asked her to lead them (music competition students) in playing the piece on front of the study body. Well, what do you expect; Of course, the music competition students (READ: Kazuki Hihara) were surprised after knowing that General Education student Aoi Kaji knows how to play an instrument, so they insisted him. They played Romeo and Juliet, but ended with terrible results, as it was only an impromptu show. But nevertheless, I find it very true that even the music students, with the exception of Keiichi and Yunoki, make major mistakes during impromptu presentations (the looks on their faces were really funny when they made the mistakes :) )

la corda volume 14 aoi kajiAfter the failure presentation, as Kahoko, Aoi, and Ryotaro have decided to get snacks, the after-school-festival-dance topic came up. Ryotaro said he can’t dance so he isn’t going. Kahoko said she had completely forgotten the dance event, and she doesn’t have a date (like her last year). And so, Aoi, very straightforward as always, asked Kahoko to go with him to the dance (despite the fact that, as Ryotaro mentioned in his mind, half the female population of the school asked Aoi to the dance). With his sweet tongue saying, “It’s my first school festival in Seisou… I want to make it a night to remember,” Kahoko accepted. I felt that the ‘un-romantic’ Ryotaro was thinking “I should have asked her to the date beforehand!”, but he’s too slow (and I think he has no intention of inviting Kahoko, anyway). Well, way to go, Aoi; that’s what you get when you are straightforward and aren’t afraid of being ashamed in front of a girl. Ryotaro, take notes.

There was another special chapter after measure 61, which was all about the individual class’ booths during the school festival. The booths were introduced when Kahoko, Len, Ryotaro, and Aoi, went to check out the festival. I see this special chapter as a comic relief break; take the Butler Cafe (Kazuki and Azuma as butlers) and the Horror House (with Keiichi as a ghost) and you’ll know what I mean :) .

la corda measure 62 groupThe last chapter of volume 14, Measure 62, is all about the last events of Seisou Academy’s school festival: the concert and the dance. The contestants of the music competition played a piece together in the concert. Though Kahoko was very nervous, she did her best because it might be the last that they [music competition contestants] will be playing together. Len had a solo performance; he played Scherzo Tarantella, the piece he wasn’t able to play during the second selection. It was expected of Len, performing a piece that is hard play. But his second piece surprised the students and the teachers (and I know will be surprised too if I were a Seisou len tsukimori violin volue 14student watching the concert), because he played Ave Maria, which was a piece that isn’t as flashy and fast-paced as his previous performances. Many noted that there was something different in Len when he was playing Ave Maria. I guess even I was moved by his performance (though it is manga, no actual music you can hear), because Ave Maria was the piece Kahoko played during the fourth selection of the music contest; meaning he is finally realizing his feelings for Kahoko, bit by bit… Well, to summarize, I developed a soft spot for Len, thanks to that performance. (And he looks so handsome while he was playing :) )

kazuki and kahoko dance volume 14After the concert was the dance party. It was another comedy break, as the boys take turns to dance with Kahoko. Keiichi, expressionless as usual, took Kahoko’s hands right after the announcement of the start of the dance, but of course, Aoi as Kahoko’s date, immediately took Kahoko away from the dumbfounded Keiichi. But just as Aoi and Kahoko were getting used with the dancing, a blushing Kazuki Hihara came and asked Kahoko to dance with him. Aoi was like, “You can’t butt in on us, Kazuki!!” Oh well. (But I really want to smack Ryotaro in the face for not wanting to dance with Kahoko. Oh come on, Ryotaro! Show some romantic side!)

kahoko azuma volume 14 kissThe dancing didn’t end with the dance party, as Kahoko who was supposed to be practicing, met Azuma in the rooftop. I guess it is Azuma’s stage in volume 14; it turned out that he was Kahoko’s last dance (well, I know that this isn’t a prom night but never mind). He even gave Kahoko a little kiss on the forehead, which enraged (I don’t know if ‘enrage’ is the right term…) her a bit.

Volume 14 ended with Kahoko and Azuma’s dance. It’s not much of cliff hanger, but of course, a reader will want to know what will happen next, right?

(Oh I forgot, there was also a Special Chapter after Measure 62. But it was only about Kanazawa and Kira’s high school days so I’m not writing about it)

To summarize, nothing major really happened in volume 14; but it was  fun to read because of the fun high school events associated with comedy scenes. But the greatest thing in the fourteenth volume is that the boys get to have their own respective spot lights.

I’ll have my summary/review of La Corda d’Oro Volume 15 next ^_^

A happy hearts’ day to everyone!!

Anime+Studying

It’s been a long while since my last post… sigh I know, the previous was added the last day of 2011. I wasn’t even able to greet everyone a Happy Chinese New Year (it’s Hatori’s year, year of the dragon, if you read Fruits Basket manga). Been very busy that I don’t even know when to have a real break…. But the semester is still far from over, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post something for the rest February. I guess I’ll be posting next during March. Arrrrggggghhhh. I can’t wait for summer vacation. But I’m required to summer classes so yeah. I have only about two weeks of real vacation.

And this post is only a very short update on what’s been happening with me since 2012 started. I don’t know when I’ll have a real post.

Portrait of M and N

PortraitOfMandNSince I have very little time to make my own synopsis of the story, here’s a copy-paste from Wikipedia:

Mitsuru is beautiful, graceful and admired by many people, but she has a weird problem—a single, violent movement against her can get her begging sweetly for more! Her nickname M, also stands for masochistic.

Natsuhiko, is a guy who found out Mitsuru’s secret on their first day of senior high school. Even so, he has an equally bad problem—the mere glimpse of his reflection can send him into a flying fit about how beautiful he is! He is nicknamed as N for narcissistic.

portraitof_m_and_nSo I just want to share that I’ve started reading Higuchi Tachibana’s ‘Portrait of M and N’. It’s a really good story with very pretty and unique characters. Mitsuru is very pretty and Natsuhiko is soooo handsome, I really like him! Nastuhiko cares for Mitsuru much; it’s just so sweet…

Bad thing is, the scanlations available are only up to volume 2. Plus the Tokyopop release is only up to volume 5 (I think). So I won’t be able to read the last volume, that’s chapter 6, not unless I learn to read Japanese. It’s just tooooo bad.

A longer review will be posted once I get my real vacation  :) . Because I just love this manga I’ll make a review of it ^_^

Alice 19th

Alice19thAnother copy-paste from Wikipedia:

The story follows Alice Seno, a fifteen-year-old girl forever in the shadow of her older sister Mayura, who achieves in everything she undertakes. At her school Alice becomes known as “Mayura’s little sister”. Older girls, judging Alice too meek to retaliate, torment her relentlessly.

Alice harbors a deep affection for Kyô Wakamiya, a handsome upperclassman and a member – with Mayura – of the school archery team. On the way to school one day, Alice rescues a white rabbit from the road despite the danger to herself, but she is rescued by Kyô and receives from the rabbit a bracelet with a single red stone. The rabbit she saves, however, is no ordinary rabbit. The rabbit reveals her true form to Alice and introduces herself as Nyozeka. Alice is told that she is destined to become a Lotis Master. The Lotis Masters use the power of words and communication to enter the Inner Heart of others. It is a powerful ability to be used carefully as Alice soon finds out.

Using the power of the Lotis Words, which reveal themselves to be in the form of runes, Alice accidentally makes her older sister disappear during a dispute over Kyô, whom Mayura had begun dating. Alice then must use the Lotis Words to try to bring her sister back from the dark. She is joined by Kyô who proves to have the Lotis powers as well, and by Frey, another Lotis master who has trained with the masters and arrives with the intention to marry Alice. Unfortunately, Mayura has been taken by the power of the Maram Words, the dark reflection of the Lotus Words. Their only hope lies in Alice and Kyô becoming the legendary Neo-Masters to discover the lost word binding both Maram and Lotis.

I’m not really a fan of Yuu Watase, well, mainly because I haven’t read or watched any of her works. I don’t really mind reading her manga either, but Alice 19th caught my attention because it’s ALICE (my all-time favourite classic story ^_^ ) and Wikipedia said that it’s the only Yuu Watase work that is Western-themed (yes, I know Fushigi Yugi and a bit of its story, but I haven’t watched or read that)

I can’t really say that I like Alice 19th as much as I like my minor favourites (shoujo excluding Cardcaptor Sakura and Gakuen Alice because those two are my major favourites; when I say minor favorites I mean La Corda d’Oro, Shugo Chara, and the likes). I’m kind of assuming that the romance in Alice 19th is Yuu Watase’s style of romance, but I can’t be sure. Well, I don’t like that style, to start with. The lotis stuffs are also not that interesting.

To be honest, I can’t think of something that I like about Alice 19th (except for the title ^_^), so up to now I haven’t done reading it… I also don’t think that I’ll be a fan of Yuu Watase…

And like what I said with Portrait of M and N, a longer review about Alice 19th will be posted soon :) .

Manga Acquisitions

I acquired a lot of manga during the month of January… most of which I haven’t read yet. Titles include: Fruits Basket (volumes 16, 19, and 21), Gakuen Alice (volumes 1-8, 12, 13), and Cardcaptor Sakura omnibus 3 (published by Dark Horse Manga). Will be posting photos, and review of the 3rd Cardcaptor Sakura Omnibus next time ^_^

I suppose that’s it for the month of February folks ^_^

Gate 7 Volume 1: Japanese History, anyone?

Yay! Comic Odyssey never fails me ^_^

Gate 7 Volume 1.thumbnail

Gate 7 Volume 1

I never thought that I would have my own copy of CLAMP’s newest manga this early. Last Thursday (Nov. 3), I visited my favourite comic and manga store Comic Odyssey to pre-order the second Omnibus book of Cardcaptor Sakura. I was also thinking of purchasing a manga, just one, that I really love -  yes, even at a full price. I immediately looked at their ‘G’ section, and at once I saw Gakuen Alice mangas, and there’s volume 9. There was also Gentlemen’s Alliance Cross volume 7. I was caught in the middle of confusion as to what I will buy: Gakuen Alice or Gentlemen’s Alliance Cross. But literally, in the middle of those two titles, was Gate 7 volume 1. Gate 7 volume 1. Whaaaat??

Yes, I was very surprised that CLAMP’s newest manga, which was published in English just last month, is in front of me, waiting to be bought. I didn’t hesitate – that one manga I was planning to buy turned out to be Gate 7 volume 1.

(you can click the Gate 7  image above for the full-sized image)

And now I’m left with no choice but to follow Gate 7 ^_^

Synopsis (from the back of volume 1):
An innocent sightseeing trip to Kyoto opens up a magical realm to shy high schooler Chikahito Takamoto. Visiting a legendary shrine, Chikahito stumbles into the mystical world of Hana and her comrades – and his immunity to their powers leads them to believe that he’s no ordinary awkward teenager! Protecting our world from violent supernatural creatures, Hana and her team welcome the confused Chikahito – who isn’t quite sure that he wants to be caught in the middle of their war!

The Art

First, I’ll have my thoughts with the art. But be warned: Gate 7 is CLAMP so as a fangirl, my review is either positive or slightly neutral.

CLAMP’s talent is really something. Gate 7’s drawing is quite different from their recently concluded titles (Kobato, xxxHolic, and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle) – that’s a proof that the CLAMP team is able to draw something different with different titles. They aren’t limited to just one style of art.

Still, the splash pages of Gate 7 are recognizable as CLAMP-drawn. The style reminds me xxxHolic’s splash pages: elegant yet mysterious.

The different places in Kyoto are also nicely drawn. CLAMP never leaves any details ^_^

The kiss on the prologue

The Hana-Chikihito kiss on the prologue

The Hana-Chikahito kiss on the prologue

I’ve read some other Gate 7 volume 1 reviews and the thing that really caught my attention is their reaction with the Hana and Chikahito’s kiss (and it’s on the lips). CLAMP’s stories are usually sided with romance, but a kiss on the lips is rarely seen (there was a kiss in Wish but the panel was too small for a full view. Gate 7′s is in clear full view). Gate 7′s  kiss on the prologue is just so… RARE in the CLAMP universe. Though there was something in that kiss, that spell Hana cast and stuff that made Chikahito come back to the caster, or so…

Japanese History

Chikahito is a History freak. He knows a lot. And that’s one of the main points of Gate 7.

For me, CLAMP’s use of Japanese History was a success. Well, though Philippine History is one of my favorite subjects (when I was in high school and as a GE college subject), I actually suck at other countries’ history (especially Asian History – one of my worst subject when I was in high school). Yes I know the names Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Oda Nobunaga, but I don’t know exactly who they are. But with Gate 7, I became slightly knowledgeable of Japanese history. Thanks to Dark Horse’s informative translation notes ^_^ (I bet the translators had a really hard time with Gate 7…)

Speaking of translations, Dark Horse Manga is now well-loved by CLAMP fans because of their publication of a bunch of CLAMP titles. I hope they will realize that Gakuen Alice needs to be English-published too ^_^

Chikahito Takamoto = Watanuki Kimihiro ?

Chikahito Takamoto and Watanuki Kimihiro

Chikahito Takamoto and Watanuki Kimihiro

Somehow, I find Chikahito and Watanuki similar. In the beginning of the story, they were just simple high schoolers (though Watanuki already had this strange ‘loved by ghosts’ thing) but both were pushed into a world they never knew. The two were made into house helpers as compensations (but Watanuki’s case was harsher compared to Chikihito who ‘gladly’ accepted the offer). They look quite alike when they are both wearing the ‘helper outfit’. And both wear eyeglasses too ^_^

========================================

Well, what do you expect from CLAMP? All good things of course! Really, CLAMP never fails me ^_^

========================================

That review will do for now ^_^. Let’s hope that CLAMP will finish this story and Dark Horse Manga will continue publishing Gate 7 ^_^

Gakuen Alice: Interestingly Complicated

Alice Academy

(L-R) Natsume, Hotaru, Ruka, and Mikan

I just finished watching all of Gakuen Alice’s 26 episodes and I was a bit satisfied with the ending the anime has. Though I think they were planning to make a season two, but I guess they got too lazy to worry about a second season.

But to make it clear, the anime was too short (I think they covered only up to volume 6 of the manga? I’m not quite sure since I’m only at the Alice Festival arc in the manga) to explain the questions that the story gave. Who exactly is Persona? Who is ‘that woman’ Natsume and Reo were talking about? What’s with the Nullification Alice the Academy is worried about? Yeah, questions like that. If you want them answered, read the manga (and I’m doing it because I want to know more ^_^)

Complicated for a Shoujo Manga/Anime

Knowing that Gakuen Alice is in the shoujo genre, my first impression (without watching any episode, just pure looking at some screen shots) with it is that the plot will be simple and predictable. I was TOTALLY wrong with that.

For a shoujo manganime whose main characters are 10 years old, Gakuen Alice’s plot is very complicated with underground side characters. There are many secrets that are waiting to be revealed.

Alice Academy love triangle

The love triangle ^_^

Anyway, I want to say that, “I really love the story of Gakuen Alice! It’s a shoujo manga yet there are many mysteries in it!”

It’s not like Cardcaptor Sakura with a predictable story (though if course, CLAMP made me surprised with the Eriol-and-Fujitaka-and-Clow thing). Somehow, Gakuen Alice reminded me of Pandora Hearts not only that there’s Alice the B-rabbit in Pandora Hearts, but also because of the twisted plot with these organizations that run underground in both of the story.

But if you’ll be talking about the love story… I think that’s one predictable thing in Gakuen Alice. We all know who is for Mikan despite the triangle, right? ^_^ (I’m more of the Ruka-Hotaru ship… the anime did well to show their relationship ^_^ BUT!! I’m still a fan of the Natsume-Mikan-Ruka love triangle!)

By the way, I really like the dodgeball game in the anime (one other thing that’s better than in the manga). Alice ball!

My simple thoughts about the characters

Now about the characters… I love all of them (the characters in the good side, that is)! I think there’s no character in the protagonist side that I hate. (de ja vu: Cardcaptor Sakura. I don’t hate any character in CCS. I love them all too ^_^)

[please see the photo above if you want to know who is who ^_^]

There’s Mikan Sakura, whom I like very much because she lets nothing worry her… She’s also very cheerful and friendly ^_^ Her Alice, the Nullification Alice, is my favorite ^_^

Natsume Hyuuga is a bad boy… but I like him since the start of the series. He’s really mysterious and I want to know more about him.

Ruka Nogi is… well, I had a really good laugh when he showed his Alice ^_^. He’s really cute!! I think the anime depicted him as, uh,  a boy with a tiny bit of a feminine side (hey! He is only ten years old!!!!), but he is waaaaay cooler in the manga.

Hotaru Imai is an unusual friend, but she’s always there caring for Mikan. I like that she’s really very intelligent. I liked her more during the cultural festival. Read the manga/watch the anime so you’ll know why ^_^

Tobita Yuu, and we call him Inchou, is a very caring class representative. He’s always there to help poor Mikan know what’s this and that :D

Permy… er, Sumire Shouda was a bitch in the beginning of the story, but she became a friend after that Natsume-kidnapping incident. Let’s all call her ‘Permy’, okay? ^_^

Tsubasa Andou-sempai and Misaki Harada-sempai are the best sempais in the wide Alice world ^_^ (why am I calling them ‘sempai’ if I’m OLDER than them?? I want to call them my sempai!! ^_^ — At first I really though that they are older than me… and then I learned that they are only fourteen! Whatda?~). Tsubasa Sempai is soo cool!!

And then there are the teachers… but I’m too lazy to type what I think about them here :D

By the way, I really like Natsume, Ruka, and Tsubasa’s name. The little bishies! ^_^ (arrgggh! I really thought that Tsubasa is older than me!)

Mikan Sakura and Natsume Hyuuga

Mikan Sakura and Natsume Hyuuga

=======================================

And there it goes! I don’t know what to tell/type more about my impression of Gakuen Alice… But maybe I’ll post more about Gakuen Alice if I’ll be in the mood after I read all these 153 chapters (currently — the story is not yet finished) :) )

Ja ne!~

Kobato: CLAMP never fails me

June 11, 2011 at 3:07 pm | Posted in Anime/Manga Impressions, Kobato, Reviews | 3 Comments

Hello guys, I’m back again with anime!! I just finished watching Kobato yesterday, and CLAMP did it again! Really great anime!

And by the way folks, CLAMP announced that the Kobato manga will be coming to an end. So that will make six volumes I suppose? Oh, oh! Yen Press will be releasing volume 4 this July so I’m currently hyper into acquiring a copy! Waaaah!

Kobato.

Kobato.

========================================

At first, I thought I’ll be disappointed with Kobato. The first few episodes didn’t sink into me that much – the story of the anime was very difficult to comprehend, I can’t understand certain points. (Though of course, the main plot of ‘Kobato must fill her flask with Konpeito so she could have her wish granted’ is easily understood since this goal of Kobato’s usually pops up along the episodes.)

Very few Lots of things keep watchers on the edge of their seats with the first few episodes. Some of them are: The drawing is really cute (this is a CLAMP shoujo manga, so it’s already expected), Ioryogi is really funny, Kobato is very friendly and energetic though clumsy, and the dabs are one of the best (Kobato’s voice is really cute!).

Ioryogi

We shouldn't forget about Ioryogi-san! ^_^

But as a CLAMP fan, I have learned to trust them and their works. And I got what I expected.

No Reviews

Since we are talking about my favorite CLAMP, I won’t talk about the middle part of the anime. Reviewing the first part is bad enough — it totally kills the idea of “don’t make a review of your favorites because they don’t have cons”.

So you got it. Kobato is highly recommended!! It’s one of the best anime I’ve watched!

It has all: Great plot. Nicely drawn characters. Kobato’s outfits are really cute! ^_^ It will make you cry really hard, but will leave you with a very happy ending.

What I am talking about incomprehensible starting plot anyway?

That’s my problem, not being able to understand the story at first. Never mind whatever those cons I mentioned. Just stick with ‘Kobato is one of the best!’ okay.

I love everything of Kobato! :D

CLAMP made me cry again

That’s one thing I love about CLAMP. They always make me cry! (Oh please, don’t call me mental. Crying makes girls prettier :D )

Really, I take back what I said about disappointing Kobato. What anime made you cry with only the second or third episode? KOBATO!

Yes, lots of episodes made me shed tears. But the last three epides… OMG, the best!! I was crying really hard in front of the television… Oh, Kobato!!

But despite those moments, there are lots of comedies inserted too, and they managed a happy ending. Really happy ending. Cheers!

Kobato ending

Really happy ending! It makes me cry.... because of happiness!

New Ship

Oh, by the way, I’m now rooting for a new ship: Kobato heart Fujimoto! Weeee!

And what makes you think that Kobato isn’t in the Romance genre?? Of course it is! I find it really interesting that I didn’t see Kobato as a love story at first ^_^

Kobato heart Fujimoto ship!

Kobato heart Fujimoto ship!

The Manga

Now, I’m babbling about the anime. I don’t know what the manga (or, as I call them, ‘The Original’) has to say. Anyaway, I’m looking forward to buying a Kobato manga so I can compare it with the anime. But don’t get me wrong, THIS IS CLAMP, so of course both the anime and manga are bound to be perfect (e.g. Card Captor Sakura). Heh, I’m too biased. :D

The manga will be coming to an end this July, making about six volumes (I think). But meh, six is nothing compared to Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle’s twenty-eight, so I hope they won’t be difficult to acquire. So into Kobato!

Expect me to be talking about Kobato and Kobato and Kobato and K-O-B-A-T-O in the future :D . This is CLAMP, so I’ll be, no doubt. Wanna bet? JK :D

CLAMP Cross-overs

What’s a CLAMP anime/manga without the usual cross-overs? I listed some characters from the other CLAMP worlds that appeared in Kobato ^_^

Wish

Kohaku and Shuichiro

Chitose, Chito and Chise

Chitose

Chitose Mihara

In Chobits, Chitose’s surname is ‘Hibiya’, but CLAMP changed it to ‘Mihara’ in Kobato, meaning the two Chitose’s are different (though, I think, they share the same soul – that idea is from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle :D ). Elda (Chi) and Freya, were named Chito and Chise in Kobato.

And the apartment! Still owned by Chitose in Kobato. In Chobits, Hideki and Shinbo are neighbors, were as in Kobato, the tenants are Fujimoto and Kobato. Kobato and Hideki’s room looks the same ^_^

Kobato, like Chi, worked part-time in the bakeshop. Both are really cute!

Best part? The Kurogane vs. Ioryogi! They same the seiyuu so they sound like each other, causing some mix-ups ^_^: Fai thought that he’s talking to Kurogane when it’s actually Ioryogi speaking, and Kobato was like, “Ioryogi-san?” when she heard Kurogane speaking. Really funny ^_^.

I know, I know… this post is full of images rather than words. But I can’t help it – Kobato is made by CLAMP so I don’t have to rant about complains and such :D

Looking forward to the manga!! ~

sakura kero rain

ame~

It’s been raining recently, and like Sakura in the photo above, I’m really loving it ^_^. I’ve always loved the rain…

But the rain also means…  start of classes is fast approaching! I can’t really decide whether I will like or hate that fact. Be excited with college? But there are still lots of things I want to do during this vacation. I need to finish Canon in D, read Harry Potter (currently halfway in book 5 :D ), watch Romeo x Juliet and more other anime. Will I be able to do those in three weeks?

Futari Wa Pretty Cure! Review

Futari Wa Pretty Cure

Futari Wa Pretty Cure

Cardcaptor Sakura is my all-time favorite anime. And it is so far, the only anime in the Mahou Shoujo (Magic Girl) genre that I have watched. (I haven’t watched Sailor Moon, and Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch isn’t exactly in the Mahou Shoujo genre).

Because of Card Captor Sakura, I have high expectations with Magical Girl series, adding the fact that there are good impressions and reviews with anime/manga in the same genre, like Shugo Chara and the ever-so-popular Sailor Moon.

Since many said that Mahou Shoujo series are really cute and interesting (and I think they are right, Cardcaptor Sakura is an example), I decided to watch an anime in that category, my first choice is Shugo Chara. But I guess I wasn’t in any luck with DVDs yesterday since I didn’t find any of the series I’m looking for. So I chose Pretty Cure, the only anime in that store that is in the Mahou Shoujo genre (I’ve searched for more Mahou Shoujo series, and I learned that Pretty Cure is one).

Naturally, I was very excited to watch it. I remembered that Pretty Cure merchandise are available in Toy Kingdom, and those are original licensed toys by Bandai (and they’re always on sale too!). If ever I’ll get addicted with the series, I’ll never have a hard time looking for role-playing toys and replicas (can’t find anymore of Cardcaptor Sakura. I guess that’s the consequence of loving a classic anime?) .

But as I was watching the first episode… I realized that I will NEVER be addicted with this anime. (No wonder why their toys in Tot Kingdom weren’t sold, causing the store to take fifty percent off their price).

Let the ranting begin….

The series is BORING. They were told to protect the jewels, and they fight those who want to steal them. Just like that. They transform, but it isn’t really something to go ‘wow!’. It’s NOTHING compared with the transformations in Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch. The fight scenes are just plain, go fight. Not even some cool magic. But that’s just with the first four episodes. I don’t know if they will get more superpowers like controlling elements or something cool in the next episodes, but I don’t think I’ll continue watching anymore.

Also, the enemies are… baduy. Yeah, that word best describes the antagonists. BADUY. I don’t know the English translation of it though… but maybe I can describe it as ‘corny’ too? Those villains are just pretty stupid to become villains. They also look stupid. (sorry for the lingo, but it’s true)

Even the Pretty Cure’s lines are very tacky too. I went, ‘What the heck?? Are those really attack names?’ And Mipple and Mepple’s “meppu mippu” really annoys me. If Mokona’s “puu!” is the cutest thing, Mipple and Mepple’s “meppu mippu” is the lamest.

Anyway, that’s just my opinion with the first of the series. There are more Pretty Cure, like Heart Catch, 5 Go, go!, and Splash Star, that might not be as baduy as the first, though I don’t recommend them, seeing how Futari Wa Pretty Cure turned out. (And I don’t want to watch any of those. I’ve had enough of Futari Wa Pretty Cure)

(If you noticed, I didn’t add any ‘Pretty Cure’ in the Anime Title category. That’s just proof that I find this anime series really lame.)

I found someone who agrees with me: http://www.themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=793

They are perhaps the most terrible mascots for a magical girl anime that I have ever seen, and even if you don’t like magical girl anime, five minutes of them will have you begging for Kero-chan or Luna, or Takuto and Meroko. …

This anime gives a bad name to magical girl shows. Add two stars if you adore anything with magical girls in them, and add another star if you’re one of those creepy fanboys who love to draw explicit yuri fanart of Nagisa and Honoka together. Eesh.Jennifer Berman

Oh, you might notice I’m posting too many complaints with anime and manga these days… I guess I need to show the bright side of something. If I am to do that, then it means…

CLAMP!

Yeah! Talking about my favorite will really show the brightest sun ^_^ (well, it IS a bit cloudy recently because of the rains… but I said I like it right? :D )~

I just like to announce that we folks from Certified CLAMP-Addicted are hosting another photo-editing contest! ^_^

We are hoping that it will be as successful as the first photo editing contest, so like our page and post your best edited CLAMP photo ^_^

I already submitted my entry – Umi Ryuuzaki of Magic Knight Rayearth!

Umi Ryuuzaki

Umi Ryuuzaki

(Photo edited by me – AlyssaMihara ^_^)

She is my favorite among the three, she’s very beautiful, and she’s blue, and her name Umi means ‘sea’, so… well, you got it :D . She controls water therefore I love her! ^_^

I’m thinking of using Umi’s photo as this blog’s header – she really goes with the title Anime Ocean – but I’d rather have someone cute (Haruhi Suzumiya!) over someone beautiful (Umi Ryuuzaki!) as the header model ^_^.

PS: I’m currently working on that La Corda d’Oro episode post I promised ^_^

La Corda d’Oro ~Primo Passo~ + Simple Review

It’s been official that I can watch an anime with 24/25/26 episodes in three days. Remember my blog post about watching La Corda d’Oro ~Primo Passo~? I just finished watching it two days ago… and I was craving for more… until, I realized that I’d better be contented with the ending of season one.

–Spoilers Alert!

–The following text is purely my OPINION. PEACE, everyone, okay? :D

La Corda d'Oro ~Primo Passo~

Classical Music

Nothing is better with La Corda d’Oro anime when it comes to classical music. The quality of music is the best, and recently, my music player’s been playing classical music from La Corda (Canon in D is my favorite ^_^ naw, I’m currently practicing it in the piano again — and honestly and always, it’s very difficult for me).

You’ll also learn a lot of music, with their ‘Lili’s One-Point Classic’ at the end of every episode. And with my little background with music, I tried to answer some of Lili’s question ^_^

Violin Romance

Here goes the story…

Honestly, La Corda is the first anime I watched because of the simple reason, ‘the anime has lots of bishounens!’. (I know, I know, I’m being too much of a fan girl :D ). Naturally, the story would be about romance.

Now I know all of us here know that there are five bishounens in season one, all of whom likes Hino Kahoko. When it comes to ‘who will end up with Kahoko,’ then my answer would definitely be NONE.

Len Tsukimori, Ryotarou Tsuchiura, Kazuki Hihara, Azuma Yunoki, Keiichi Shimizu — you can have any of them when you play Kin Iro Corda (PC, PS), the original of La Corda. For me, the anime adaptation shouldn’t have any guy that would end up with Kahoko because that would be bias if one of them was chosen.

The anime did it’s best — the season one ended with Kahoko loving her violin (Kahoko and her violin pairing! mwahahahaha ^_^), with her not choosing any of the five. Though I very much love Kazuki Hihara, the ending was ‘all for the best’.

Naw, my problem is, what would season 2 be? If I didn’t like it, I would stick with season 1′s ending. Plainly said, my ideal ending would be, ‘Kahoko continued her love for music and her violin. THE END.’

The Manga

For a bit of twist, I decided to read the manga. And I regret reading it. I didn’t like the ending. Yuki Kure is so biased (sorry! it’s my OPINION).

Well, my first impression with La Corda is the main pairing is KahoLen. But as I watched the anime, it came to me that all of the five can be paired with Kahoko. And again, the ideal ending would be none of them ended up with her.

All I can say with the manga is that, the manga-ka chose one of the characters. It’s very unfair. Not everyone likes that character for Kahoko, right? And to add insult to injury, the original of La Corda is a game, therfore, there are different story paths for different persons. The manga-ka should have stick with my ideal ending ^_^ (but I can’t do anything about that ending anyway).

For those planning to read the manga, I say that if you aren’t a Kahoko heart Len rooter, then it would be better to be contented with the anime’s Primo Passo ending.

=======================

So I guess that’s all ^_^. Better be contented with La Corda d’Oro ~Primo Passo’s~ ending ^_^
